Confession: Super smart bloggers scare me a little.
Politics is a tough topic. It's tough to talk about objectively. It's tough to talk about openly when you are not too sure where the other people in the conversation stand. Out in the blogosphere there is an enormous amount of political discussion, debate, endorsements, and so forth. This is to be expected right now. After all it is an election year. Whether you are online or in line at the grocery store, politics is likely to be something that people are talking about. The blogosphere is really just a microcosm of the world at large. Events that are going on in society are inevitablely going to be what people are blogging about. Also, here in bloggyland, some of the most popular blogs are politically centered. Just look at The Huffington Post; it's the most popular blog in the world. Plus you have Momocrats and Poligots just to name a few of the extremely well written ones.
Mom bloggers are really tearing it up on the political scene. Perhaps you missed it where Queen of Spain got to interview Barack Obama?! Let me just say that again out loud as I type, Queen of Spain, a mom, a blogger, interviewed Barack Obama for BlogHer. I say that with only the tiniest bit of INSANE JEALOUSY. Is that not the coolest thing ever? I mean even if you don't support Obama, c'mon!
Now, I like to fancy myself an intelligent, politically minded individual. I too am a mom, and a blogger. But, the thought of representing the entire blog community by interviewing a man who could very well be the next president of the United States, not to mention make history, has me ready for a repeat visit from that Pop Tart I had this morning for breakfast. I mean seriously, all hail the Queen of Spain.
I tell you though , when I read all of these fantastic blog posts, the quick witted quips, the knowing tweets back and forth from blogger to blogger, I feel a little bit like that ugly grl at the 8th grade dance who is left standing against the wall alone drinking punch while all her friends get asked to dance. I mean, I don't think I'd ever dare venture into political blogging. I don't know why. It's not as if I can't hold my own in a political discussion. Why do these bloggers scare me? I am intelligent. I am educated. I follow politics. I vote. Plus, if worse came to worse, I could just cheat. My best friend is the president of the League of Women Voters in Philadelphia. I suppose I can always just ask her political opinion and post it here as my own. That's not unethical is it?
Insert brief soapbox moment her:
Please let us not forget the importance of exercising our right to vote. The right that men and women have given up their lives for. The right that allows you to have a voice in what direction your country will take in the next 4 years. Please, do not be left behind. Help make change. Help make history. Vote!
That is all.
