Warning: This post has the *F* word in it!

Confession: I am a "MommyBlogger"

For some of you who've been reading here for a while, you may be wondering why I'd waste a perfectly good confession by stating the obvious. It is obvious right? I mean the blog kind of implies it. Plus, the mom bloggy goodness is baked right into the title. Easy to figure out? Apparently not so much.

So, I got an email from someone who said that they had recently read my blog for the first time. They said that it was "irreverent and funny" which to me sounds like a snippet from a TV guide review of a new sitcom, but whatever. I guess I am flattered. At that point I was anyway. I've certainly been called worse. Then they went on to say "but I think your blog is too mom-centric." Mom-centric. Read as: No one wants to here about your kid taking a dump lady. Adding that "maybe I can broaden my subject matter to attract a wider non-parent base of readers." Non-parent base. Read as: No one counts moms with nothing better to do than sit around and read other moms stories of their kids crap as real readers. And finally it said that "my writing reads as very blog like and could be really good if polished up." Polished up. Read as: You write crappily about crap. Why don't you try giving some 'real' writing a try.

All of this is very sound advice if it were not for the fact that this is a MOMMYBLOG! Sure, I get some dads in here. Even an occasional non parental unit pops in to peruse my stuff. But let's face it people, moms are my bread and butter so to speak. I was torn at this point between writing back "Thank you. Your constructive criticism is much appreciated. I'll take it into consideration." Or "Dude (yes it was a man), have you ever even read my blog? I'm a mom. I blog about being A MOM. Hello? Why would you write this to me and damage my very fragile, newish blogger psyche, you ass-hat?" I chose the latter, but in a little bit nicer terms. I avoided the words shithead, asshole, and my personal favorite fucktard.

So, what would you have done? Did I cross the line? Should I have ignored it? Do you think he'll be back? Is it bad to put off potential readers even if they are ass-hats? Somehow I don't think so.

haha - this made me giggle for many reasons. #1 - he's an idiot, you're doing perfectly well in your content.
#2 - the best blogs are the ones with a narrow focus who really connect with their readers (just like yours)
#3 - he most certainly is an ass-hat, let's light him on fire :)

Have you heard about the Mom bloggers club? You should join us over there - it's a great resource for us mommy bloggers :)

let me know if you join, we can be friends ;)

Hi, this is my first time here and I just joined the PMB. I love your content, I was laughing the whole time. Did he respond back to you?

They always say, write what you know...write what you really feel, your own personal reactions, thoughts and opinions.

Mommy confessions and 16th Century footwear development???? It's just a suggestion....

Your fave word is also mine, trouble is I have been working hard to not have it too easily at the tip of my tongue, and reading you calling the dog that very word, and now this...fight it, fight it.

I love it! And, fucktard is thee absolute best! What's losing one man reader? There are plenty of blogs on the internet. I would have wished him luck on finding one more suited to his reading taste! As in good luck fucktard!

Well, I'm glad of you appreciate me anyway!

fucktard!!! I would go that way and if you let us know his blog we can let him know it from every blogger I know. How shocking would that be just a one word comment or email from huge amounts of moms!

I would have done the same. I am loving your words such as ass-hat, and fucktard. You keep writting about what you do best and if that is being a mom well then good for you, screw him. I will always be back. (janes blog)

P.S. but maybe not for the next 2 weeks, leaving for the Grand Canyon, but will have the laptop, may just post pictures.

Also, I'm adding your button to my site and removing the feed from my reader, it still won't pick up your new stuff. GRR. Anyway the button is there!

Stick to your guns! If the nitwit comes back, let him have it with both barrels--metaphorically speaking, of course! What do you think he was thinking? Probably one of those egocentric blogheads who has nothing better to do than surf the Net and leave irritating comments on people's sites. You're doing a worthwhile thing here--stick with it! I've got something that might put you in a better mood--I'm hosting a Giveaway that starts tomorrow, and I'd love it if you dropped in! In the meantime, you go, girl!

OKay, I wanna know WHO you're submitting your blog to? Because no one (fucktard) who just comes across your blog is going to say that...right? Want me to kick their ass? Because I could totally do that.

Don't worry, there will always be people who will comment or have advice to share - you certainly don't have to take it. It's your blog, your writing and your target audience. If he doesn't "get it", that's his loss!!! He's only one person, for one message from him there must be dozens others who are happily reading and loving it, just not e-mailing you.

I have a new word! Fucktard!

I don't think you should give this guy much more thought...do some people not think before they speak(write)? Thats a stupid question because there's a lot of people that don't...but they really should STOP and think. Who is this guy to say this to you?
He is definetly a fucktard...an asshat...lol..

Anyways...I love reading your blog...weather it's about your life as a mom or whatever!

Hey there...let him go somewhere else! I love the way you write! Keep it up sister!!

haha! A performance review for someone that doens't know what you are performing. That is classic. Sadly, that person is probably a manager somewhere. Maybe even a CEO.

Perhaps this man should start his own blog? Not sure he would get far.

Keep doing what you're doing. You're one of my favs!

I like the ass-hat part! Screw-em!!!
(that must be read as it is said by the father in Legends of the falls on the porch after his stroke) I am a first time reader, a mom of two and I think it is great to have someone make us laugh about the crap we navigate in a day.

First time reader, LOVED your blog. As a single mom of three, I can totally relate to so much!

As for the fucktard... A friend of mine recently re-introduced the word 'douche-bag' to my vocabulary (in reference to a not-so-nice man that hurt my feelings). I pass it on to you.

I will definitely be back to your blog! Mommy's must stick together.

Michelle said...

I just recently starting saying "douche-bag" again myself!! Gross word. Yet oddly appropriate at times.
