Confessions: Sometimes, inevitably one of them will slip something by you.
So, I don't have a whole lot of time to post because, well, my kids start school this week. This means that I am in a special kind of hell. Or heaven, depending on how you look at it I guess. But, in either case, it means I have a ton of stuff to do this week. So what suffers? The blog.
I had a birthday party bash for 2 and 3 yesterday, and all went pretty well. But I couldn't resist serving you up another shining parent moment of mine that occurred on Friday while getting some last minute party items at Target. Somehow while I was picking up stuff for the party, #3 with his go-go gadget arms, reached out and added a pair of craft scissors to our loot. I did not notice right away. So when he asked to get sprung from the confines of his cart about an hour into our trip, I let him get down to roam free with the other kids. I almost never do this. But, he was tired and getting stir crazy and I was just about done anyway. So while I am reconfiguring my shopping cart, #1 is begging for some new Hannah Montana loot for the 857th time. #2 is "trying on" every single princess related item she can get her hands on and #3 is off and running. So now I am in the store, with 19 things in my hands, 2 kids trying to grab every item off the shelves that they can get their hot little hands on, and one toddler off and running... with scissors.
Yes, he apparently had taken the Fiskars scissors and stashed then in his shirt. Luckily, they have the little protective plastic sheath over the blade. Not that they are very sharp to begin with. (For those who don't know they are crafting scissors. This particular pair were to make cuts shaped like little zig zags.) Anyway, I am trying to keep an eye, or two, or ten, on the other kids, while trying not to drop all the stuff I'm holding, while chasing down the kid with the scissors (who now thinks that we're playing a game- you know the one- you chase, they run faster and laugh). I have once again managed to produce a real live version of yet another parenting cliche' as my child is actually 'running with scissors'! Luckily, he is headed off at the pass by a nice young man stocking shelves. I corral him and we make our retreat back to the cart where I grab the two girls, force them to relinquish their stash, throw everything in the cart, and head for the promised land AKA the check-out line!
Before I go, I can't help but mention to the judgemental looking older woman with the "tsk tsk tsk" look on her face, that I am just babysitting for my sister's kids.

Running With Scissors

My kids do Power-Squealing. Especially at the supermarket.
It makes me so proud.
My mom had a harness for my brother... he hated it. Worked well though. ;)
I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one that has these kinds of things happen. I remember one time this happened and these older ladies were standing there, shaking their heads at me in that judgemental way, and I just smiled and said loud enough for them to hear, "okay kids, lets go find your mother!"
Mothers all over town talked about how MEAN I was for keeping my son in the cart till he was almost 4... but if I had three running around I might drink heavily. I don't know how you do it.
I think I need to make you a Mother of the Year award for not injuring any of them "on accident" yourself. lol
Sorry. I have a strange sense of humor today.

I am so glad I am past that age with my girls. Now they just beg to get Hannah Montana or High School Muscial stuff all the time. Ugh.
LOVE IT! I know that chase game ohhh too well. Hey, that tsk tsk woman did the same thing to me the other day at Wal-mart! What an itch-bay! She gets around!
How funny. Kids can be real stinkers sometimes. The week before school is particularly heinous, I think.
Awesome. I see what I have to look forward to. Mine are 3 and 8 mos. First school year for us. Good times. And I'd be happy to guest blog sometime. I write about style and kiddie gear. Check it out at
