Confession: I don't like that my son doesn't like to play with any boy toys.
Don't get me wrong, I don't really worry about it. I mean, it's not keeping me up nights or anything. I just don't get it. My nephews like cars and trucks and video games. My friend's sons like baseball and football and video games. My boy friends growing up all liked sports and cars and video games. I'm sensing a theme here with the video game thing. My little #3, who is not actually 3 but rather 2, is totally into girl stuff. While I am completely secure that sporting princess slippers and a purse at age 2 is totally natural, I've been there, done that all before.
For years before 3 came along, I was up to my eyeballs in Hannah Montana and High School Musical. Swimming in a sea of princesses and pink stuff. Believe me I was more than ready to say adios to Dora the Explorer. Is it to much to ask that I get a turn with Matchbox and monster trucks? Please tell me that my time is coming!? I wanna play with some boy stuff! I want to release my inner tomboy. I drink beer because I like the taste. I like hockey. I like baseball. And Lord help you if you stand in front of the t.v while I am watching the football game! I finally got my boy, my son, my little man. The problem is my little man is running in front of my football game with Hello Kitty undies and carrying Malibu Barbie in his hand.
I have no concerns about him being 'normal' or that his toy choices will effect his future in any way. My son is my son and whether he plays with pick up trucks or ponies, or wants to wear t-shirts or tutus, I will love him unconditionally. I just want my turn to raise a little boy. Hey, if my girls would've liked to play race cars and make mud pies, I'd be fine with that too. But, for the most part, I have girls. Real true girls. I guess I'll just have to wait it out.
Like I said, I am totally okay with him wearing his sisters red ruby slippers and her light up sparkly tiara, as long as he doesn't ask to wear them to the prom.

Can ya blame the kid? He's got two sisters! :-)
When I was a Nanny I had a boy who liked to play with the toys his sisters did.
Relax Mama! :-)

Hi! I'm Debbie. I am so glad I stumbled across your blog today. The red ruby slippers cracked me up! I love celebrating family, food, fun and friends. Please stop by my blog any time. Have a super day!
I knew he'd love his sisters toys and things. He idolizes them. I was just hoping that maybe I'd get to get rid of some of the pink nightmares that have invaded my house.
I think given time, your son will start wanting to play with more of the so called "boy" toys. Right now he just wants to fit in with his sisters and he has seen how much fun they have with all this bright pretty stuff. Plus I think kids just like to play with what isn't theirs. Your a great mom for allowing him to play with whatever he chooses. I have known moms who wouldn't allow their sons to do this.
Hee! Hee! He's only 2. Give it a few more years and then you'll be able to live your dreams. In the meantime, take lots of embarrassing pics!
My brother liked my "girl" toys when he was younger...but believe me he grew outta that phase. Now I wish I could get him to play dress up with me :-P
Hello Kitty underwear...so cute! Maybe if you buy him a couple of Tonka dump trucks, he'd "dig" them, too. I couldn't resist. :)

Isn't that always the way? You think having a child will bring you one thing and they turn around and do the exact opposite. I'm sure his truck days will come. In the meantime, enjoy the fact that you don't have tire marks on the walls and scratched into every wood table in your house and that vehicles are not being crashed into your walls.
For this reason (among others), I am glad we had a boy first. I was such a tomboy (I only got a few Barbies and My Little Ponies so that I could have something to offer to get a couple of girlfriends) that I wouldn't know what to do with a girlie girl. I hope Harry likes boy stuff!! (But feel the same way you do -- I certainly wouldn't be upset except with regard to my own ability to relate were he to prefer girlie things.)
Hee hee... thats too cute. I have a cousin that loved barbies and grandma would buy him a barbie truck with ken and ... the little boy... for Christmas. But, he had two female cousins his age, so that was more fun for him... he grew out of it though. Now he's an awesome drummer!
Anyway, I love reading your blog and I have an award for you! Click here to get it! ;)
I have found that this is normal little boy with older sister progression.
Although my son likes sports and cars and such, he ALSO likes to wear his sister's dress up clothes and play with dolls.
At one point he had to sleep with no less that 3 dolls each night.
It seems to be getting less and less lately as he discovers new "boy toys".
I'd probably have the same feelings, so don't feel bad. I'm sure it is because he only has sisters.
I'm here from ICLW today & I tagged you ~ http://scrappyd.blogspot.com/2008/10/ive-been-tagged.html
Maybe we could arrange a swap. My very boy boys for one of your girls for a day or so. I'm so craving some sweet little girl time.
Not that I'd give up my boys for anything...but oh to go shopping for a little girl just once!
Playing devils advocate here....what if he decides to wear them to the prom? What if this isn't a phase or just play? That being said my very masculine brother used to wear all of my dress up clothes, makeup, and play with my girl toys. Just because he wanted to be like me. Then eventually he started to obsess about cars and football. So just give #3 some time.

LOL. My son was like that too for awhile and he is the first child. He would go for the sparkly things to play with at daycare. At first I was totally freaking out but now...at 5, he is all boy!
echloe- The last line is purely in jest. If he wears him to the prom, I am totally fine with it!
My son is "sweet" like a girl, and ya know, I'm glad. He played a lot of girl stuff too as a young boy, being sandwiched between two girls, but he quickly discovered boy stuff once he started school.
He turns 11 today and I blogged today about why I love my son being sweet.
Your blog is fun! I'm glad I found you on MomBlog.
I'm sure his time will come. I played with boy toys for a few years because I had a brother and wanted to be like him.
Other than that I don't have much advice, my little man is still in utero :) I hope little boys are very fun, I was a girly girl and hoping for some pink and princess!
He's got two sisters and hat I can understand. I used to play with boy toys. From what I know, kids grow out of it.

My nephew is 3 and he does not have any sisters but he is obsessed with the color pink. It is always funny watching my sister and her husband try to talk him out of it. I'm sure he will out grow it.
Too funny! I'm sure it's probably just a phase of wanting to be like his sisters! Sounds like your kids are pretty entertaining!
ICLW.
I was gonna say...it's probably just that he's got two big sisters, but realized that others had gotten there before me.
Best of luck with them both!
